Restore Strength and Function with Same-Day CEREC® Crowns

A damaged or decayed tooth doesn’t mean the end of your natural smile. At Birk Dental in Creve Coeur, we restore function and aesthetics with custom dental crowns – and thanks to advanced CEREC® technology, we can often complete the entire process in just one visit.

Whether you’ve broken a tooth, need a crown after a root canal, or want to improve a tooth’s appearance, our crowns are strong, natural-looking, and built to last.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that covers and protects a damaged or weakened tooth. Crowns restore the shape, size, and appearance of the tooth while also strengthening it for long-term use.

Crowns are commonly used when:

  • A tooth has extensive decay and a filling won’t suffice
  • A tooth is cracked, broken, or severely worn down
  • A root canal has been performed
  • A dental implant needs restoration
  • A tooth is misshapen or discolored and needs cosmetic improvement
  • A dental bridge needs anchoring support

CEREC® Same-Day Crowns

At Birk Dental, we use CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology to design, create, and place your crown in a single visit – no temporary crown, no second appointment, and no waiting weeks for a lab.

Benefits of Same-Day CEREC Crowns:

    • Single-visit convenience – no need to return for a second appointment

    • No temporary crown – eliminates risk of a temp falling off or irritating the gums

    • Precise digital imaging – no messy impressions

    • Durable ceramic material – designed to withstand years of wear

    • Natural-looking results – matches the color and contour of your existing teeth

    • Comfortable and efficient – streamlined process with minimal disruption

We create your crown in-office using high-quality ceramic that is milled to fit your tooth perfectly. The result is a durable, long-lasting restoration that looks and feels just like your natural tooth.

Traditional vs. Same-Day Crowns

While CEREC same-day crowns are ideal for most patients, there are some situations where a traditional lab-fabricated crown may be recommended – for example, in cases that require specific materials or complex customization. Dr. Birk will evaluate your needs and recommend the best solution for your smile.

The Crown Procedure: What to Expect

    • Initial Exam & Digital Scan – We’ll examine the tooth and take digital images using 3D scanning technology to create a precise model of your bite.

    • Tooth Preparation – The tooth is gently reshaped to make room for the crown. Any decay or old filling material is removed to ensure a clean, stable base.

    • Crown Design & Fabrication – Using CEREC technology, your crown is designed and milled on-site while you relax. The crown is then polished, fitted, and adjusted as needed.

    • Placement & Bonding – Once the fit is perfect, the crown is permanently bonded to the tooth. We check your bite and make any final adjustments for comfort and functionality.

You’ll walk out of your appointment with a fully restored smile – no waiting, no follow-up needed.

Caring for Your Dental Crown

Dental crowns are durable, but proper care will help them last for many years:

    • Brush and floss daily, paying attention to the gumline

    • Avoid chewing on hard objects like ice or pens

    • Schedule regular dental checkups to monitor your crown and overall health

    • Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth while sleeping

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, your crown can last 10 to 15 years or more.

Restore Your Smile with a Same-Day Crown

If you’ve been putting off getting a crown due to time or convenience, CEREC technology makes it easier than ever. Get the care you need without the wait – all under one roof, in one visit.

Dental Crowns – FAQs

1. What is a dental crown and why might I need one?
A dental crown is a custom-made cap that restores a tooth’s shape, strength, and appearance after damage or decay. Crowns protect teeth weakened by large fillings, fractures, or root-canal therapy and can also improve the look of misshapen or discolored teeth.

2. What materials are used for crowns at Birk Dental?
We offer high-quality porcelain, ceramic, and zirconia crowns that blend beautifully with your natural smile. Each crown is chosen based on your tooth location, bite, and aesthetic goals to ensure long-lasting strength and a seamless, natural appearance.

3. How long does it take to get a crown?
Thanks to same-day CEREC technology, many crowns are designed, milled, and placed in a single appointment. In some cases, a traditional two-visit process is used if additional customization is needed. Either way, we make the process quick and comfortable.

4. How should I care for my new crown?
Brush and floss normally, paying attention to the gumline around the crown. Avoid chewing ice or very sticky foods that could loosen it. Regular dental checkups allow us to monitor your crown’s fit and keep the underlying tooth healthy.

5. How long do dental crowns last?
Most crowns last 10–15 years or longer with good oral hygiene and routine dental visits. Avoid grinding and clenching to extend their lifespan. If you notice looseness or sensitivity, contact Birk Dental promptly for an evaluation.
