Traditional vs. Same-Day Crowns

While CEREC same-day crowns are ideal for most patients, there are some situations where a traditional lab-fabricated crown may be recommended – for example, in cases that require specific materials or complex customization. Dr. Birk will evaluate your needs and recommend the best solution for your smile.

The Crown Procedure: What to Expect

1. • Initial Exam & Digital Scan – We’ll examine the tooth and take digital images using 3D scanning technology to create a precise model of your bite.

• • Tooth Preparation – The tooth is gently reshaped to make room for the crown. Any decay or old filling material is removed to ensure a clean, stable base.

• • Crown Design & Fabrication – Using CEREC technology, your crown is designed and milled on-site while you relax. The crown is then polished, fitted, and adjusted as needed.

• • Placement & Bonding – Once the fit is perfect, the crown is permanently bonded to the tooth. We check your bite and make any final adjustments for comfort and functionality.

Caring for Your Dental Crown

Dental crowns are durable, but proper care will help them last for many years:

• • Brush and floss daily, paying attention to the gumline

• • Avoid chewing on hard objects like ice or pens

• • Schedule regular dental checkups to monitor your crown and overall health

• • Wear a night guard if you grind your teeth while sleeping

With good oral hygiene and regular dental visits, your crown can last 10 to 15 years or more.
